The Good Shepherd

After last week's roll on blog posts, I had this great idea that - by some miracle - I'd have the inspiration to do it again this week. Then I got sick. Haha And we all know that when you get sick, your brain goes on vacation - which is really inconvenient. So, I apologize to anyone who’s tried to have an intelligent conversation with me in the last few days. ;)
However! The aches, pains and cluelessness of Saturday morning have dulled into a slightly sensitive stomach (which leaves me the use of my brain), so I'm ready to jump back in. :)
John 10: 14-18
14. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my father.
The name, Good Shepherd, comes up often – and I love the symbolism behind it. Christ is our shepherd. And He’s also the Lamb.
They say that the good shepherd – who truly loves his sheep – would give his life for his sheep. Unlike the hired shepherd, who only cares for them out of duty.
Christ is the Good Shepherd, because He cares for us, and He has given His life. He’s done it. He’s been the lamb – the sacrifice. And now, He’s the one to lead us home.
John 10: 4
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
Do we know his voice? Will we follow? I hope so. He’s given us a path. He’s given us the keys to the world beyond – to eternal happiness. Who doesn’t want that? I know I do. And I invite every one of you to follow Him – to put your trust in Christ, who will never let you down. He loves each and every one of us, and He will take care of us.
The path isn’t always easy. We have our rocks, ruts and steep hills – places where we want to quit, or take what appears to be an easier way. But if we do our best and continue to try – putting our heart’s effort into progress, He will carry us.
Before I sign off, I’d like to share one of my favorite poems. :)

He will carry us! Have faith. :)
