A Tribute

Tonight … marks something so tragic, and so … well, to quote Anita Stansfield’s book: Unbelievable! Incomprehensible! I can’t believe it. 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic. It tears at my heart to think of those people … those passengers – both those who died and those who survived. Heartbreaking, and impossible to imagine. What it would have been like to be there, and see that great ship swallowed up by the waters of the ocean. To see the lights go out, and hear the wails of those frozen people who floated in the ice-cold water.

How it must have been, to have lived your last moments on the ship named Unsinkable. How great the terror. How wrong the last breath. How utterly unspeakable the things that were lived. We do not know how it felt, since none who died lived to tell the tale. Our minds can only bring about a hundredth of what they truly must have felt … how they must have cried, and prayed, and said their last words to one another. How they must have felt, knowing it would be their end, as they watched their ship break in half. And the great pain ... knowing that they, or those they loved, would soon perish.

Let's all dedicate this night to those who died on that ship, and the tragedy that will always be remembered.

  1. When I watch the movie, I don't watch it past the first half. (Half being determined by where the movie used to end on the VHS tapes.)

The moment that starts me crying is the string quartet. They finish their song, then start to scatter, and end up regrouping to keep playing.

So sad and tragic, in deed. : (

  2. The Titanic story was so sad on so many levels. I was watching special anniversary coverage on the news the other day and was astounded by those stories.

    1. I was watching as well. There was one program on the crew that really hit me. They all sacrificed so much.

  3. There were some missionaries booked for passage on the Titanic, but something happened and they booked for another ship. Blessed for them...

  4. The Titanic had such a huge impact, even after 100 years people are so strongly affected by it. Here in Halifax we have commemorative events every year, of course but this year was extra special. It's always a sobering, somber time remembering, but there are uplifting moments, too, because of the heroes.
Thank you for the lovely post. :)
