S is for Seeking
The Good Stuff
Deep down, I believe we all have a knowledge of what's right and wrong - of what's good for us, and what we should avoid. But these days, our focus seems very centered on the wrong. It's not bad to avoid it. That's a good goal. But, we must remember: our lives here aren't only about avoiding; they're also about seeking - going after the good, and the things we know will bring true happiness.
Honestly, the whole thing is pretty rocky. If you focus on avoidance, you might miss the good things. If you seek too much, you could be blind to the opposition. As I've said before, life is about balance. If we spend enough time seeking out God - and finding the truth of ourselves and our lives, it's not half as likely that we'll get into trouble. Not that it still can't happen, because it can, but a righteous and moral prospective helps put everything in place.
I'm not trying to lecture. I'm just giving out friendly suggestions. There are so many good things out there to help us. I admit, they're often very hard to find, but they're worth it. For me, the scriptures are such a strength - somewhere to turn, and to seek. I don't know where I'd be without them!
Great post, Bonnie, and great suggestion about actively seeking the good instead of just focusing on avoiding the bad. They say motivation can be divided into two groups: those moving *towards* something and those moving *away* from something. The *towards* part always seems much more attractive to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not religious (understatement of the year, probably), but in spite of my heathen ways, what you said about spending time moving towards what's good and true helping to prevent bad things happening to us resonated with me. I read once (must have been a Sidney Sheldon book) that "you can't cheat an honest man", and although the context is different, the bottom line is the same: when your focus is the truth, acting in the best interest for the greater good, when your motivation isn't selfish or out of negative emotions (hatred, anger, envy)... chances are very, very good you'll have good things happen to you.
Some people call it karma, others call it grace, and I'm sure there's many terms for it that I've never even heard of. Whatever we choose to call it, it's real and it's a factor of our lives. We ignore it at our own peril.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Elizabeth! Sending a hug back your way. :)
DeleteAwesome post. Very true about the seeking too. The more you focus on something, even if it is to avoid it, the more you become obsessed with that. It's much healthier and positive to seek the good.

I totally agree there is too much focus on what's wrong and not enough on the good - or at least, gratitude for what we do have and can enjoy and what is helpful for us.
