P is for Pride

(Pride and the Priesthood)
DIETER F. UCHTDORF -
"At its core, pride is a sin of comparison, for though it usually begins with “Look how wonderful I am and what great things I have done,” it always seems to end with “Therefore, I am better than you.”
When our hearts are filled with pride, we commit a grave sin, for we violate the two great commandments. Instead of worshiping God and loving our neighbor, we reveal the real object of our worship and love—the image we see in the mirror."
It's good to have healthy self-esteem, but pride comes before the fall - as history has taught us time and time again!

To quote my wonderful Seminary teacher: "Life is just a compilation, mostly, of what you choose." We choose our attitude, and how we treat the things we do and accomplish - and the things we don't do. I've seen the high and mighty, and I've also seen people the total opposite, who put themselves down to such an extreme that they're proud of how terrible they think they are.

At either of these points, pride becomes an obsession, and obsession is simply another word for priority. If your priority is your pride, you're looking past God, and that's always a dangerous path to take - for both your souls and those around you. We must all watch our thoughts, words, and deeds, and remain humble in the sight of the Lord. And when we do that, we're so much more capable of helping others - because our focus isn't on ourselves, and our eyes aren't glued to the mirror. :)

I'm not here to lecture, but instead to extend a loving reminder: Humility is what brings true greatness. <3
